Mental health is fast becoming a general concern across all continents of the world, and Africa is not exempted. According to popular reports, while the annual global rate of visits to outpatient facilities of mental health stands at well above 1000 of every 100,000 persons, the figure is just below 20 persons per 100,000 in Africa. This is however not enough to absolve the African continent from the problem of mental illness.

The rate of suicide in Africa, and particularly, Nigeria, testifies to the need to pay attention to mental health in the continent. Nigeria, according to the World Population Review, accounts for at least, 9.5 suicides per 100,000 persons; and rates 10th highest in Africa, and 67th globally. More alarming is the fact that most suicide cases feature youths below age 30.

An average African works for 8 hours between 0900 hours and 2000 hours, he spends at least 4 hours per day in traffic, and another 3 hours working overtime from home. These series of activities build up his stress level, and has long-term effects on his mental health. Your body needs rest! Pay attention to your mental health! Take enough rest, manage your time, and invest in vacations! Travel far and wide, see new places, explore tourist locations. These will keep you sane.

Care for others, it’s the best mental health remedy!
